Dear Mel,
This place is so weird and awesome all at once. My husband shot this video of a gator crossing the green, walking right over his ball, during mating season earlier this year. Yep, this big ass dinosaur decided he needed to cross the road to a new pond in search of love.
Isn’t that something we do, too, the humans I mean? Don’t we crisscross ponds hoping to find love when we don’t have it in our lives? I had to go all the way to Australia to find my Florida man for heavens sake. It would have been easier if all I had to do was saunter across a golf course like I owned the place. I didn’t golf then. I do now.
There are a lot of single women in this town and plenty of men looking for nurses with purses. The women are quite discriminating, having reached a point where they often prefer their own company and that of a dog to a man.
I have, however, heard some wonderful stories of new love found in old age.
A man in my neighborhood who walked a cute little Chihuahua mix named Phoebe got married recently. His first wife died ten years ago. He didn’t expect to marry again. That’s why he got Phoebe even though he likes to travel the world going Scuba diving. Finding someone to look after the dog was never an issue. Cuteness goes far. He moved to the new section with his new wife and I don’t see him and his pup anymore. It’s nice to know he’s happy again, though.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that it’s never too late to fall in love. Don’t fret; the right one will come along. Be patient. Don’t move in with just anyone. Be discriminating. And remember the gator. Sometimes you have to move to a new pond for love to find you.
Sincerely,
Martina
